HARDSHIP, CINDERELLA, OR WORK LICENSES

HARDSHIP, CINDERELLA, OR WORK LICENSES

The term Cinderella License, Hardship License, Work License, or Restricted License all refer to a license issued by the Mass. RMV to an offender for a legitimate purpose such as going to work, attending school, or receiving medical treatment. Hardship Licenses are valid for a consecutive 12 hour period (e.g. 7:AM to 7:PM).

Obtaining a hardship license is sometimes difficult, especially without a skilled lawyer. In order to obtain one, you must appear for a RMV Hearing and present certain evidence. Pursuant to Melanie's Law, the Registry of Motor Vehicles (RMV) is changing its policy regarding who is eligible for a hardship license. To be eligible for a hardship license, you may now be required to present proof that you do not have access by public transportation to your required destination. You should be represented by an attorney when seeking a hardship license.

If you have multiple DUI offenses on your record, you should contact a Massachusetts Lawyer who is specializes in hardship license appeals.

Hiring the right lawyer can make the difference between getting a hardship license or being denied and having to serve the balance of your suspension with no hardship relief.

  • THE BOARD OF APPEAL

The Board of Appeal is a 3 member panel, consisting of representatives of the Registrar of Motor Vehicles, the Attorney General and the Commissioner of Insurance. The Board of Appeal conducts appeals from actions of the Registrar of Motor Vehicles. These appeals reflect license suspensions ranging in duration from 30 days to lifetime suspensions and, in certain cases, require the installation of an ignition interlock device (IID) in the insured's vehicle. The lawyers of RMV Appeal.com are available to assist you in presenting your appeal of the Registry's decision to the Board of Appeal. The Board has the authority to reverse the RMV's decision and reinstate your Mass. License. If the Board affirms the Registry Hearing Officer's decision, you may have the right to appeal the decision of the Board of Appeal to Superior Court.

The Board has the authority to grant you a hardship license even if the Registry of Motor Vehicles has denied you. However, you should be represented by a lawyer at the Board of Appeal. The hearings are formal, procedural rules apply, and a hardship license attorney can maximize your chances of success.
